Are you planning to sell something on an online marketplace? Be careful when communicating with interested buyers. Some of them are fraudsters.

How does the fraud work?

You decide to sell something through an online marketplace. You list the item for sale and an apparent “buyer” sends you a message saying that they are interested in buying it and asking if the item is still available. Once you agree to the sale, the ‘’buyer’’ sends you a link with a note stating how they intend to pay for the item.

What happens when you open the link:

  • You as the seller will be asked to fill in your Banking IDentity information, the PIN to your George Key and your date of birth. Once you do, you will then be asked to enter the code from the incoming verification SMS. By doing so, you will allow the perpetrator to activate your George Key on their own device.

OR

  • You will be asked to fill in your card details (card number, CVC/CVV code, validity, PIN). You will then be asked to verify the transaction and you will do so in the belief that you are simply confirming the promised incoming payment.

How can you avoid being scammed?

  • Never fill in the security details to your Banking IDentity or card.
  • Never enter your George Key PIN into any forms or anything similar – use the PIN only in your George Key.
  • Never disclose the PIN to your card in any shape or form to a third party.
  • Never disclose the code you receive from a verification SMS to a third party.
  • In George Key, only ever authorise a transaction that you yourself have initiated.

If you have completed your details into such a link, call 800 207 207 immediately.

Please forward the message containing the link from the “buyer” to us at phishing@csas.cz.
