Sustainability strategy of Česká spořitelna
As the country's largest bank, we see our shared responsibility for the long-term sustainable prosperity of Czech society and want to accelerate changes that foster respect for people and the environment. Česká spořitelna is based on its core mission, which commits us to supporting the long-term and sustainable prosperity of clients and society with respect for the environment.
We want to be an example that socially responsible companies are more stable, better prepared for future challenges and have better long-term results. We strive to show that sustainability does not have to mean limitations, but can instead be a driving force for innovation and long-term success for Česká spořitelna, our clients and the entire Czech economy.
Sustainability is integrated into Česká spořitelna's core strategy so that it gradually spreads through everything we do. This effort defines the three main areas of impact of our work that we focus on: #stronger bank, #stronger clients and #stronger society.

What We Are Working On
Long-term prosperity and #StrongerFuture are the result of the decisions we make today. That is why we focus on the areas where we can create the greatest value for our clients, employees and society as a whole. Our goal is to support the transformation of the economy, make financial services accessible to everyone, and transparently measure the impact of our activities.
Supporting Economic Transformation Through Financing
Through our financing activities, we support economic transformation through projects that reduce energy consumption, modernise buildings and support the transition to a low-carbon economy. In our financing decisions, we follow our Responsible Financing Policy, which considers environmental, social and ethical impacts alongside economic considerations. This helps us better assess and take into account the impacts of our loans and investments on the economy and society.
For relevant financed activities, we assess eligibility and alignment with the EU Taxonomy and define rules for financing sensitive sectors. We have set a Sustainable Financing Ratio (SFR) target for the corporate financing portfolio and the retail mortgage portfolio. We are also developing the ELENA programme to support renovations and energy-efficiency improvements in residential buildings.

Working to Reduce Emissions from Our Business
Climate change is one of the defining economic and societal challenges of our time. We are reducing emissions from our own operations while also working to reduce financed emissions. We focus on gradually limiting financing for sectors with high greenhouse gas emissions, increasing financing for projects and sectors with low or zero emissions, and supporting the financing of clients’ decarbonisation efforts. At the same time, we identify opportunities to support the transformation of key sectors of the Czech economy.
We continue to develop Česká spořitelna's local Transition Plan, which brings together sector strategies, climate risk management and the identification of new business opportunities. We are also increasing the share of electric cars in our company fleet and contributing to the development of Česká spořitelna's new headquarters.

Building an Accessible and Inclusive Bank
We want our products, services and communications to be accessible to everyone. We see accessibility and inclusion as a natural part of a quality customer experience and responsible business.
We continuously work to ensure that our products, services and communication channels comply with the requirements of the European Accessibility Act and to make them more accessible. At the same time, we foster diversity and inclusion across our organisation, creating an environment where everyone can reach their full potential. We actively support Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) and follow the Employer's Human Rights Ten Commandments, strengthening a fair, inclusive and respectful workplace.
Developing Our Impact Measurement and Reporting
We believe that trust is built through openness and transparency. That is why we regularly monitor and evaluate the impacts of our activities and publish information about our progress.
We continue to enhance our sustainability reporting in line with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) and the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS). This includes regularly reviewing our material sustainability topics and continuously improving data quality, enabling us to better monitor progress towards our goals and evaluate the related impacts.

Our awards
At the 2025 Mastercard Banka roku awards, Česká spořitelna won Bank of the Year, Private Bank of the Year and Responsible Bank of the Year. We received the Private Bank of the Year award for the fifth consecutive year. The competition recognises achievements in Czech banking and financial services.
In the 2025 TOP Odpovědná firma assessment organised by Business for Society, Česká spořitelna received the TOP Odpovědná velká firma – Advanceddistinction. Our Silnější hybatelé project also received a special jury award recognising support for local communities.
Česká spořitelna received the Excellence Class distinction at the ESG Transparency Award 2025, organised by EUPD Research. The award recognises the scope, transparency and accessibility of ESG reporting.
Česká spořitelna was named Best Bank 2025 and placed third in the Most Customer-Friendly Bank category in the awards organised by Hospodářské noviny, based on independent research.
In the 2025 ESG Rating conducted by the Prague University of Economics and Business, Česká spořitelna was among ten large companies recognised with the ESG Excellence award in the Expert category. The assessment focuses on how companies manage and substantiate their environmental impacts.
