VIA Foundation was established in 1997, picking up on the work of the Czech
branch of the American “Foundation for a Civil Society”, which had been active
in the Czech Republic since 1990. From its establishment until the end of
2007, VIA Foundation provided 2,100 grants amounting in aggregate to 190
million crowns, making it one of the largest and most active Czech
foundations. VIA Foundation supports the activities of non-profit
organisations in the regions and strives to promote philanthropy in
society.
Since 2006, the Ceska Sporitelna Foundation has been the General Partner of
VIA Foundation’s grant programme “Helping People Improve the Place Where They
Live”, having taken over the General Partnership from Ceska Sporitelna, which
had supported its first two years. The objective of the programme is to renew
or transform unused or grown-over spaces into public spaces that can be used by
all age groups. In selected areas, domestic non-profits - with the
technical and financial assistance of VIA Foundation - are improving the
environment of their municipality or city. The programme also makes a
major contribution to reviving the interest of locals in what is going on in
their locale, by actively involving them in all stages of the planning and
renewal or construction project.
Partnership Foundation is a non-profit organisation that helps to care for
the environment, stimulating sustainable development and inter-sectoral
cooperation, and supporting the participation of citizens in public affairs.
The foundation achieves its objectives by making grants, organising
internships, training, seminars and other educational modules, publishing work,
mediating information and contacts concerning the environment, as well as
through its own programmes.
In 2004, the Ceska Sporitelna Foundation became a partner of Partnership
Foundation and the General Partner of one of its programmes – ”Greenways“,
following up on the several years of successful cooperation between Partnership
Foundation and Ceska Sporitelna.
Greenways are trails, roads, or natural corridors used in line with their
environmental function and potential for sport, tourism, and recreation. The
aim is to improve the quality of life of the inhabitants of towns and
municipalities, focusing on safe transport, environmentally friendly tourism,
the protection of natural and cultural heritage, and a healthy life style.
Czech Union for Nature Conservation (ČSOP) is the largest non-governmental
organisation in the Czech Republic that has, since 1979, associated people
interested in nature conservation and environmental protection. Its mission is
to protect and renew nature, landscape, and the environment; to offer
environmental education; and support sustainable development. ČSOP closely
cooperates with state and self-governing authorities, schools, and other
non-governmental organisations.
In 2006, the Ceska Sporitelna Foundation picked up on ČSOP's several years
of successful cooperation with Ceska Sporitelna, and continues to support it to
this day, as the General Partner of the project “National Network of Stations
for Handicapped Animals”. These are fist-aid stations whose main task is to
provide first aid and fast professional care to all found and temporarily
handicapped animals, and to allow their full-fledged return to nature.
