The University of Economics is the largest university in the Czech Republic
offering education in economics. Highly rated both at home and abroad, it
provides economics and management education to over 15,000 students, accounting
for nearly 45% of the students of all of the twenty-one economics faculties of
universities in the Czech Republic.
Ceska Sporitelna has been the General Partner of the University of Economics
since 2002. The Bank contributes financially to the development of educational
activities and also finances related activities, such as publishing, student
work support, fairs, membership in international organisations, etc.
Cooperation with Ceska Sporitelna also takes other forms - since 2006, a CS
branch has been located directly in the university’s building, presenting, in
addition to regular services, current products for students, as well as
vacancies at CS; the branch also organises gatherings of CS’ managers with
students at the “Šance” Job Fair, or the lectures of CS
representatives on interesting topics.
The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) is a young university whose
establishment was made possible by the changes after 1989. Presently, the
University comprises three faculties – Faculty of Education, Faculty of
Informatics and Management, and Faculty of Arts, attended by over eight
thousand students. The University is known at home and abroad for its
historical studies, political studies, natural science didactics, knowledge
management, and e-learning.
Ceska Sporitelna became the General Partner of the University at the
beginning of 2008. A five-year cooperation agreement includes the exclusive
provision of all banking services as well as the support of educational
activities at UHK. Funds are dedicated to supporting the research work of
entry-level academics, conferences, and publishing, as well as to the sharing
of personal experience by the CS management with the university’s students.
In January 2010, Česká spořitelna launched the MoneyMania educational
internet portal, which is designated primarily for children and adolescents,
but also for their parents and teachers. The aim of the portal is to increase
young people’s knowledge of finances and banking products in a fun and
interactive way. Users are guided through the portal by the Money mascot, whose
look they can choose themselves.
Visitors to the portal find all sorts of information about the world of
finances and banks (e.g. the role of banks, what types of accounts exist, what
direct banking is, what types of card there are, how to save money, what to do
in the case of financial problems, etc.), which they can become familiar with
from several points of view – depending on the various stages in a person’s
life. After reading the individual chapters, they can test their knowledge
through quizzes. The portal also offers solutions to various situations in the
lives of young people – e.g. “I want to pay by card online”, “I want to buy a
laptop”, “I want to live on my own”, “what to do with saved money”,
etc.
MoneyMania also offers entertainment – an online game with the Money mascot,
monthly contests for interesting prizes, forums on financial topics,
interactive maps, summer photo contests or image downloads for mobile
telephones and computers.
In February 2008, Ceska Sporitelna became the first bank in the Czech
Republic to establish a club reserved for women. Ladies Investment Club,
associating women interested in investing, was inspired by the Women's
Investment Club that has operated since 2002 at Erste Group Austria.
The goal of Ladies Investment Club is to set up an independent prestigious
platform that would serve not only for social gatherings of the club’s members,
but primarily for their further education in finance and investments.
Women are usually a group neglected by the marketing activities of banking
institutions. But it is they, after all, who are usually responsible for
administering family finances - they are responsible for 80 percent of
purchasing decisions. Ladies Investment Club sees women as important clients,
who are eager to know more, to consider well, to make good decisions, and to be
successful.
Debt Advisory Centre was launched in January 2008 as a charitable
organisation. The newly set up counselling centre, founded by Ceska
Sporitelna and the Czech Consumers’ Association, is the first of its kind in
the Czech Republic and Central Europe.
The aim of Debt Advisory Centre is to give advice to over-indebted
consumers, to help them find solutions in situations when they may be
threatened by social exclusion due to their inability to pay their debts, and
also to engage in awareness-building among potential debtors, thereby
contributing to the principles of responsible lending.
All services offered by the Debt Advisory Centre, including proposing asset
and liability restructuring, communication with financial institutions on
behalf of the client, psychological assistance, are independent, impartial, and
free of charge.
Safe Internet is a project that was founded in cooperation between Česká
spořitelna and the companies Microsoft and Seznam.cz and with support from the
Police of the Czech Republic. Bezpecnyinternet.cz is a portal that provides
advice and hints on how to work safely with the internet. It offers information
about the risks related to internet use, but also about the way to avoid these
risks, such as fraudulent offers, harmful viruses or e-mails that determine
personal data, and how to protect one’s self against them effectively. The
portal is focussed on improving awareness in the area of internet safety, and
may thus help reduce the level of internet crime.
Bezpecnyinternet.cz is divided into several sections so as to appeal to all
internet users – beginners, advanced users, parents, children; a special page
is designed for schools, where teachers can find interesting tips to enrich
their lessons. An important part of the Portal is the Advice Room, where
visitors can send questions or comments, or report inappropriate messages.
DreamCatcher is a project designated for all young people aged 11 to 21. It
offers a unique opportunity to fulfil their dream! It is easy. Simply put
together a team of at minimally 3 and maximally 35 people, register the team
and dream at the www.dreamcatcher.cz [new window] portal, win the vote and “work off”
part of the dream. The applied dreams must be feasible and should ideally bring
benefit to somebody other than the team alone.
The public along with the DreamTeam vote to decide which dreams will have
the chance to come true. The DreamTeam consists of prominent cultural, sports
and social personalities. The dream should be “worked off” in the form of
community service activities.
The essence of the project is to show children and young adults that the
road to their dreams leads through their own efforts and an active approach to
life. The project also teaches young people how to present themselves and their
projects, leads them to be team players, teaches them responsibility and not
least public welfare activities. Moreover, they have the opportunity to gain
priceless experience and make new friendships.
Tutofka
Tutofka is a contest for individuals, where users registered for the
DreamCatcher project can play for interesting prizes. The principle is very
simple: contestants must gain the most votes from the public – the person who
gains the most votes wins.
Friends can vote repeatedly for one contestant, but maximally once per hour.
The age range for Tutofka is the same as for DreamCatcher, which means 11 to 21
years of age.
Tutofka is declared regularly on the www.dreamcatcher.cz [new window] website. The first Tutofka was
announced in march 2011 and the winners attended the professional Snowboard
Camp in Špindlerův Mlýn. The Tutofka contests for participation in filming the
video for Gipsy.cz, going behind the scenes for the training of beginner pilots
and stewardesses, one week of participation in Dressler Camp, a meet-and-greet
with Petr Čech whilst participating in the Petr Čech Football Academy, a trip
to Scotland for the qualification match of the Czech football team, or tickets
to the Rihanna concert and much more, were equally appealing. Find out more at
www.dreamcatcher.cz.
DreamCatcher project achievements in numbers (as at 8 December
2011):
number of registered users at the DreamCatcher portal: 7,455
In May 2011, Česká spořitelna was the general partner to the conference for
the professional and laic public on the topic of financial literacy. The
conference hosted experts from financial institutions, civic advisors and the
Czech Ministry of Finance and Česká spořitelna.
The conference offered practical examples of how to solve regular and
non-standard situations in life and ways to cope with problematic financial
situations, as well as information about current development in the field of
loan fraud.
